Wordpress is a powerful blogging tool that’s very flexible and easy to use. It is famous for its 5-minute install.
This tutorial is for those who don’t have Fantastico which instantly installs numerous scripts and tools in your site.

You Will Need

  • FTP Client (try CuteFTP or Net2FTP)
  • Text Editor (your MS Wordpad or MS Notepad)
  • Access to a web server (you have a domain or subdomain)

Server Requirements

  • PHP version 4.2 or greater
  • MySQL version 4.0 or greater
  • (Optional) Apache mod_rewrite module (for clean URIs known as Permalinks)

Installation Process

  1. Download the latest version in this page
  2. Unzip the downloaded file into a folder named Wordpress in your hard drive (PC).
  3. Find this file in the folder where you unzipped it: wp-config-sample.php. Open it with your text editor and fill in your database details. Save this file as: wp-config.php.
  4. Upload all the files contained by the Wordpress folder (and not the folder itself) where you want to install Wordpress. This could be in your root directory or in a new folder.
  5. Type on your web browser: http://yoursite.com/wp-admin/install.php. The url depends on where you uploaded your files.

Option

If you are scared or feeling uneasy installing Wordpress by yourself, there’s a site that 1nstalls Wordpress for free. Or get Fantastico!
