Vermilion - a band we have just formed

We have just formed a band. It’s called Vermilion.

Introduction

Let me introduce to you the members. Please refer to the image shown above. From the left… It’s Catzie for the vocals, Boss for the bass, Eric for the guitar, and Kuya Stephen for the lead guitar.

They are actually my closest guy friends in FEU - East Asia College, that’s why I’m sure that playing together as a band will be so much fun. Although I have a problem with this band-forming thingy, which I will discuss later.

How did it start?

Kuya Stephen and I always did our song recordings in the PC. He records his guitar playing in his PC, and then I put record my vocals onto it. A sample of our collaboration can be played in this post. And then, one night while we were chatting in Yahoo Messenger, he asked me if I want to form a band with him. I immediately said “Yes” because it’s one of my biggest dreams- to be part of a band. Then we invited Eric who plays rhythm in the guitar, and Boss who plays bass guitar. I have a girl friend Cath who was invited to be out keyboardist but she refuses. We’re gonna try to invite her again some time. We may find a way to convince her.

How did you come up with the name?

Eric and I were texting last night about what band name we must bear. Stephen says so people can easily remember us. Then I asked each of the three of them their favorite colors. I found out that each of us is fond of the color red (though red is not the top favorite color of everyone). So I told Eric, “What if we put the word ‘Red’ on the band name?” Then we brainstormed again… It was a failure. lol. And then I thought, “What if we just use a name that’s like synonymous to red?” I browsed the web for it. In Wikipedia, the pigments of red that are listed are: Alizarin, Crimson, Vermilion, Braziline and etcetera.. Eric and I thought that “Vermilion” would be a cool name.

And then I asked myself how the word Vermilion would be able to describe our music. My answer is… Vermilion is a pigment of red, and each band member is fond of the color red; red is in out hearts. When we play or make music, it will come from our hearts. What comes from our hearts in red. And red is vermilion.

Hoo-boy. Did you actually understand that? LOL.

And then Boss and Stephen agreed with that name that Eric and I came up with, so here we are, we are now called Vermilion!

The name is subject to change someday if an absolutely fantastic name pops in our head. haha!

The problem I have with this band-forming

My dad won’t let me be in the band if I am the only female member. I am an only child, an only daughter, that’s why my parents are overprotective a.k.a. OVERTLY STRICT. My dad’s point is that it doesn’t look good if people see me surrounded by a bunch of guys and I’m the only girl in that group. But dad, it’s a band! Look at Paramore, Nightwish, MOJOFLY, all those bands with female vocalist - the frontwoman is surrounded by a bunch of boys but do those girl look sleazy or something like that just because they’re the only girl? Doh!

I’m scared of talking to my dad about it once more. I guess I will just find the right time. This band will make a dream-come-true to me. I gotta do everything to convince my parents.

What will your music be like?

Our music genre is ROCK. For now, we will play cover songs. If the genre of the song to played is not rock, we’ll make a rock version of it.

After our music specialization skills sharpen, we’ll start making our own songs. I hope the guys cooperate in making a “clean sounding” rock song. hehe.

What about the drummer?

As you have noticed, we don’t have a drummer yet! I think it’s got an advantage though. We can practice ourselves as an acoustic band for now. When we gain a little fame, the drummer will eventually join us. wahahaha.

Summary

Vermilion is a rock band whose members are: Catzie Keng (17, vocals), Eric Venzon (16, guitar), Boss Manauis (17, bass guitar), and Stephen Hila (20, lead guitar). All of these members are Computer Science students in FEU - East Asia College.
